Blind Pests and Vermin are simply mathematically overtuned as "common" enemies. I mention health only because you claim they "go down easily." Pests don't go down any faster, and Vermin even less so. They at least have a similar problem as Beetles in that they tend to just. Their health is also lower than other common enemies.īlind Pests have 80 health+24 per level, same as Beetles and Lemurians, but sacrifice no damage or overall functional mobility for it.īlind Vermin have 90 health+27 per level, a good bit more than Beetles, Lemurians or their Pest brothers, despite being much faster. Jellyfish are slow, get batted away by a stiff breeze, and their attacks are interrupted by being hit, all to deal ~70% more damage (50+10 per level) than a Pest or Vermin, and they have to kill themselves at very close range to do it. Their saving grace is that they can spawn in large numbers, but also have far less health each. Lesser Wisps deal at best 15 damage at close range, and 5 damage at medium range and beyond, provided they hit (scaling is annoying to dictate but it is also much lower than Pests & Vermin).

Lemurians' range attacks are arguably easier to avoid than Pests, fire no more frequently, and yet deal less than half the damage (12+2.4 per level). Log book says 15+3, but their attacks deal 200%, similar to the Beetle whose log book numbers are 12+2.4 but their only attack deals 200%). That is a moot point and I'm tired of it being brought up.īeetles are pitifully slow, take an eternity to finish their spawn animation, with a distinct and long noise, often miss you while you're standing still, and still deal less damage (24+4.8 per level) than Pests and Vermin (30+6 per level. Originally posted by Fangrilo:The new common enemies are very easy to evade though. If they actually want to meet their original intent with them they probably should reduce the damage of their attacks considerably, but up the rate of fire (or maybe add some volley fire mechanic where a swarm of them all attacks at around the same time). The reality is somewhat mixed as large groups don't seem to make that much of a difference to their threat, but individuals can hit excessively hard, so a lucky shot from one can really mess you up. The original description given for them, was that they would be mostly harmless on their own, but in large groups a serious threat. They're just a little too random in their movements, but their slower speed makes the random direction changes not quite so bad.īlind Pest seem to be a weird case.

Larvae could also probably use a similar but much smaller tweak. The flip side is that they're not much of a danger on their own, but while you're blasting away at them trying to actually hit them you can often get taken out by something that actually is dangerous because it was able to sneak up on you while you were distracted.

They can be ridiculously hard to hit at times as they constantly juke around and never go in a straight line for more than a second or two at most. Blind Vermin I think they need to either slow down a tad, or reduce the rate they randomly change direction. Larvae, vermin, pests, you can just run when they are nearby and you'll be fine, even without mobility items. They hurt but I've not found them unmanageable unless my run is just giving me nothing to work with. The Blind Brothers need at least a scaling nerf. Luckily they're typically only encountered at stage 4 at the earliest, Dissonance notwithstanding.Īlpha Constructs, the little pyramid turret dudes, actually deal just slightly more damage than Lemurians, which I think is a fine tradeoff for being rooted in the ground. I'd argue their difficulty mostly comes from being difficult to hit more than anything, but their damage is absolutely nothing to sneeze at. I don't know the specific damage for Larva but they DO hit pretty hard.

Other similar "fodder" enemies are dealing even less by then. Their damage (it's the same for both) is about 72 by difficulty level 7, while the humble beetle is dealing just under 60 at the same level. Blind Pests and Vermin are both definitely overtuned, having higher base damage and higher damage scaling than their contemporaries.
